“Spirit is always speaking; and when I’m painting, I’m listening and interpreting. The strange beauty of light seeping through the cracks of empty egg shells sparked my “Cracked” series, which became a meditation on pain, healing and love through relationships. Perhaps you need to be a little cracked to participate fully in the alchemy of life.
My landscapes are inspired by gestures in the lay of the land, whose meaning unfolds as I paint. I thrive on the demands of plein air painting, which require me to set aside all the discomforts weather, insects, and terrain can provide in order to be attentive to each precious moment. Sometimes this has me working at lightening speed to catch a fleeting effect. Sometimes, it has me returning to one location in similar conditions, so that I can boil down features from a particular time span over several days into one picture. Either way, my sense of connection to nature is restored and strengthened as I marvel in each minute’s revelation.”
Chrissanth grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, where she spent many hours from an early age watching her illustrator-dad churn out bookcovers and portraits. While much of her training came from this apprenticeship, subsequent instruction with Daniel Greene, Todd Casey, Joe Paquet and Andrew Lattimore has been invaluable.
Chrissanth has worked as a storyboard artist, illustrator, and art teacher at The Louis Armstrong Middle School in Queens and at the Katonah Art Center. For the past thirty years, she has done portraits on commission and has more recently taken up still life and plein air painting. Chrissanth is a member of the Salmagundi Club, the Northern Westchester Artist Guild and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists.
A relatively new resident of North Salem, you’ll probably see her bundled up on Mills Road or the Baxter Preserve, brushes in hand. In every genre, she finds the hunt to capture the beauty of the life force challenging and thrilling.
Artist also accepts commissions.
